13th (Service) Battalion (2nd Rhondda) Formed at Cardiff on 23 October 1914. Moved to Rhyl and attached to 129th Brigade in 43rd Division. 28 April 1915 : formation became the 114th Brigade in 38th (Welsh) Division. Moved to Winchester in August 1915. Landed at Le Havre in December 1915.

Action : Operations on the Ancre 

11 January - 13 March 1917. Operations on the Ancre concerned the gradual advance in the area around Miramont during which the Germans retired towards the Hindenburg Line defences.

He resided at Oakmere, Cheshire and enlisted at Northwich. He was killed in action on the 30th December 1916 aged 21 and is buried in Guards? Cemetery, Combles, France, Priez Farm Memorial 19, Grave Reference Split 19.
