Although many perished in times of national conflict and in the service of their country, many more survived including those interned as Prisoners of War. Detail :

Attested for service in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force 17th October, 1917. Became 3/3282 New Zealand Medical Corps. He was formerly Royal Army Medical Corps as a medical practitioner and appears on the Army List in this capacity in 1914, so was involved in the Great War throughout.

Following the war, was a reservist in the NZ force gazetted as such and as a Captain on 7th December 1925.

The New Zealand WW1 List shows John Spencer-Daniell having joined Egyptian Lodge No. 27 in London. A search through their contribution record shows no entries matching. It is possible there is a mistake and perhaps Lodge No. 27 is not under the English Constitution.
