Although many perished in times of national conflict and in the service of their country, many more survived including those interned as Prisoners of War. Stories of those who did survive are included as part of this site, especially those with high gallantry awards, those included against an external rolls of honour and those who had a distinguished career in wartime and military leaderhip.

Initiated into Golden Bay Lodge No. 2194, located at Takaka Westland/Nelson, on 23rd October, 1912. He is recorded as an Engineer and resident at Takaka. The ledger shows a retrospective resignation (a correction) on 16th May, 1915 with an annotation that he joined Southern Star Lodge. Passed in November, 1912 and then raised in January, 1913. He is recorded as 28 years old.
Joined Southern Star Lodge No. 735 on 9th June, 1914 as an Engineer resident at Nelson. He continued to pay his dues until at least 1921.
