Action : War Survivor

Although many perished in times of national conflict and in the service of their country, many more survived including those interned as Prisoners of War. Stories of those who did survive are included as part of this site, especially those with high gallantry awards, those included against an external rolls of honour and those who had a distinguished career in wartime and military leaderhip.

73242 Staff Sergeant Farrier Charles Bullock, Royal Horse Artillery.

Investigation shows that this soldier was a 24 year veteran of the Royal Horse Artillery and was discharged prior to the war in 1914. Towards the latter end of the war he enlisted and took part in operations serving in the artillery. It appears he survived the war having been finally discharged in September 1919. His extensive service record is captured and available.

He enlisted 4th May, 1889, aged 18, having previously been associated with the 4th Battalion, the Gloucestershire Regiment. He was a shoeing smith prior to his military life. His military career took him to India, South Africa and he served at the time of the China Campaign 1900.
