Probate LEVIS John Samuel of Lansdown Park Bath died 5 November 1943 Administration Bristol 14 January to Dorothy May Levis widow and Yvonne Joyce Levis spinster. Effects £16498 17s. 1d. Resworn £17716 19s. 1d.

His obituary can be read in the Wiltshire Times and Trowbridge Advertiser 13th November, 1943: "A BELOVED SURGEON - Deaht of Dr. S.J. Levis - Memorial Service. The death of Dr. John Samuel Levis, the eminent Bath surgeon, which occurred suddenly on November 5th, at his home at Lansdown Park, Bath, caused much sorrow in many Trowbridge homes. For over 28 years he had been the chief surgeon at the Trowbridge and District Hospital, and his great skill had brought renewed health and freedom from bodily pain to many of the town's people. He will be greatly missed, and almost impossible to replace, for apart from his surgical skill he had endeared himself to his patients through his geniality and good humour.

The late Dr. Levis was only 54 years old. He had a long and distinguished association with the Bath Royal United Hospital, and for many years he had been consultant surgeon to numerous hospitals in the locality in addition to Trowbridge, including Chippenham, Melksham, Frome, Shepton Mallet. He received his training in Cork and Dublin. He held numerous high degrees, was a Master of Science, and a member of the International Society of Surgeons. He was a distinguished soldier as well as surgeon, winning the Military Cross three times in the Great War 1914-18. He was at the Trowbridge Hospital only a few hours before his death...."
