Action : The Final Advance in Flanders 

28 September - 11 November 1918. As the pressure mounted in other sectors the opportunity was seized to escape the confines of the Ypres Salient. Within five days the British Second Army had pushed the Germans back over the 1917 battlefield and were advancing on Courtrai. After action at Courtrai the advance continued into Belgium until the Armistice on 11th November.

The register of the UK Deaths in the Great War shows that he was Regimental No. 40920 of the Lancashire Fusiliers. He is also recorded formerly of the Royal Engineers: Regimental No. 271975. Enlisted at Cardiff. Medal card shows family receipt of the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.

Died of Wounds in France or Belgium. He is recorded in the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site as D.C. Andrews with the following entry: ANDREWS, Lce. Cpl. D.C., 40920. 20th Bn. Lancashire Fusiliers. Died of wounds, 5th Feb, 1918. Age 30. Son of W.G. and Mrs. Andrews, of "Northcroft", Bury Rd., Alverstoke, Hants; husband of Hettie Sophia Andrews of 27, Woodland Place, Penarth. Grave Reference at Etaples Military Cemetery: XXXI. The records of the Tennant Lodge No. 1992 show that David joined on 8th May 1913 from Lodge 2068. Tennant Lodge's register at the United Grand Lodge of England shows the annotation "Died on Active Service". His Mother Lodge, Portsmouth Lodge of Temperance, shows he was initiated in February 1910, but resigned in 1913, corresponding with him joining Tennant (i.e. he let his membership run out at his Mother Lodge. His age is recorded as 24 when read, but the transcriber has misinterpreted to 34. His real birth year should be c.1884 and not c.1876.
