Family :

William Daniel James Draper was born in Plumstead, Kent, England on 18 October 1880 and is the son of William and Amelia Draper. He served in South Africa from 28 March 1900 to 30 November 1902. He was married in Halifax to Maude Eva Henneberry on 7 February 1906 and they lived at 14 Agricola Street, Halifax. Their children are:

He joined on 26 October 1898, and served 7 years, 16 days in the Royal Garrison Artillery, enlisting in Halifax on 10 November 1905, number 5003, serving 7 years 105 days in the Royal Canadian Garrison Artillery and was Regimental Sergeant Major in 1913. He was gassed in France in November 1915. He was commissioned in the Permanent Force on 1 July 1919. He died of cancer at Camp Hill Hospital on 23 June 1923 and is buried in St John’s Anglican Cemetery, Halifax, Nova Scotia.

He was previously overseas in the South African Campaign and awarded the Queen’s South Africa Medal with four clasps together with the King’s South Africa Medal. For his part in the Great War he was awarded 1914/15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal. He was further awarded the Coronation Medal 1911.

William was a Corporal in the Royal Garrison Artillery based in Halifax at the time of his initiation into Royal Standard Lodge No. 398. The contribution record shows that he was fully subscribed until at least 1921.

The names of those brethren who fell are taken from the monument formerly located in the foyer of the Masonic Hall on Barrington Street, which now resides in the banquet room of the Masonic Hall on Coronation Avenue in Halifax, NS.
