Service Life:

Campaigns:

Unit / Ship / Est.: 140th Siege Battery Royal Garrison Artillery

Action : France & Flanders

France & Flanders covers all the dates and corresponding locations which are outside the official battle nomenclature dates on the Western Front. Therefore the actions in which these men died could be considered 'normal' trench duty - the daily attrition losses which were an everyday fact of duty on the Western Front.

Listed as a 25 year old Foreman from North Shields when he was joined to Napier Clavering Lodge in 1914. He joined from the Scottish Constitution where he started out rising to become a Master Mason of St. Ayle Lodge No. 95, Anstruther, Fife, Scotland. His English Constitution Grand Lodge Certificate is recorded to be presented on the 14th November, 1918, but this is perhaps a mistake and it is meant to be a month after him joining in 1915. The contribution record shows that he was "Killed i/a," with no date, but perhaps inferring 1918 or 1919.
